Cookies and Storefront Tracking

What the website and each app store in a browser, and how consent is respected. Effective 21 October 2026.

This page lists what houseofmarka.com and each Marka Shopify app keep in a visitor's browser, and when they wait for consent. "Cookies" here includes the browser's local and session storage, which work like cookies but stay in the browser and are not sent with every request.

On a merchant's store, consent is collected by the store, through Shopify's customer privacy settings and the store's cookie banner. Shopify groups it into analytics, preferences, marketing and sale of data. Our apps read those choices through Shopify:

  • Our web pixels (Marka Metrics and Marka Cart Drawer) are declared to Shopify as analytics pixels. They run in Shopify's strict sandbox, and Shopify runs them only when the shopper's choices allow analytics.
  • Storage that only makes a feature work is used without consent. For example, a drawer's session or a note that a pop-up was already shown.
  • No app uses marketing or advertising cookies, and no app sells data.

Where the law asks for consent and how the banner works on a store are the store's decisions. The store's own cookie notice should mention the apps it uses.

The website uses Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads to count visits and to see whether our advertising leads to enquiries or app installs. These set Google's cookies (_ga, _ga_KFF8EYVHZS and _gcl_au) and send Google your IP address (shortened), device and browser details and the pages you view.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, nothing is set until you choose Accept in the cookie banner. Elsewhere measurement is on by default and you can choose Decline. Your choice is kept in your browser's local storage as hom-consent. Clear this site's data to be asked again. More in the website's privacy policy.

3. Marka Reviews

The review blocks set no cookies and do no tracking.

Name Where What it does How long
rm-helpful-<review> Local storage Remembers that this browser voted a review helpful, so it is not counted twice Until the browser's data is cleared
rm-popup-seen Session storage Remembers that the review pop-up was shown Until the tab is closed

The blocks load reviews from our server, which sees the visitor's IP address in the ordinary way. Our server does not store it beyond the technical logs described in the Privacy Policy.

A review's YouTube link shows a thumbnail served by YouTube, and imported AliExpress or Etsy images are served by those sites, so the visitor's browser contacts them. Videos play through YouTube's privacy-enhanced (no-cookie) player.

The app's admin may set a sign-in cookie, reviewmaster_session, for staff of the store. It is never set for shoppers.

4. Marka Bundles & Upsells

The offer blocks set no cookies.

Name Where What it does Consent How long
marka-offers:<store>:<offer> Session storage Stops an offer pop-up from showing again in the same visit None needed Until the tab is closed
marka:analytics-session:v1 Session storage A random visit ID for offer performance reports Analytics and preferences 24 hours, or until the tab is closed

When a shopper adds an offer, the app adds hidden details to the cart line: which offer, tier or gift step it is, and any personalisation text the shopper typed. With analytics consent it also adds a tracking marker. These details travel with the cart and the order in Shopify, so the offer is priced correctly at checkout.

If a shopper withdraws consent, the app records the withdrawal and deletes the events of that visit.

5. Marka Cart Drawer

Name Where What it does Consent How long
marka_sid Session storage A random session ID that keeps the drawer's state and links the cart to it None needed Until the tab is closed
marka_cfg_v, marka_uses_<offer>, marka_popup_<id> Local storage The drawer settings version, how often an offer was used, and a once-a-day limit for pop-ups None needed Until the browser's data is cleared
marka_shown_…, marka_declined_…, marka_unlocked_…, marka_steal_…, marka_gift_removed_… and other marka_ keys Session storage Which offers were shown, declined or unlocked in this visit, so the drawer behaves consistently None needed Until the tab is closed
marka_vid Local storage, or a first-party cookie when local storage is blocked A random ID that keeps a shopper in the same A/B test group Analytics. Deleted if consent is withdrawn 180 days
marka_ctx, marka_intel Session storage A logged-in shopper's spend tier, interests and price band, so the drawer can show relevant offers Preferences Until the tab is closed

The drawer also adds hidden attributes to the cart:

  • _marka_session and _marka_v, the session and the drawer version, which need no consent;
  • with analytics consent, _marka_ab and _marka_intent, the test group and the kind of visit.

Offer lines carry _marka_ properties, such as _marka_offer or _marka_gift, and any gift message the shopper writes. These travel with the cart and the order in Shopify.

Drawer events (an offer shown, added or declined) are sent only when the shopper allows analytics. Personalisation is used only when they allow preferences. A merchant can switch the consent requirement off in the app's advanced settings. Do this only where your own consent arrangements make it lawful, because the drawer will then record events and personalise for every visitor.

The web pixel runs in Shopify's strict sandbox as an analytics pixel. It listens for page views, add-to-cart, and checkout started and completed, and keeps only the cart and checkout events.

The checkout offer block. If Shopify has allowed it to make network requests, it reports when its offer is shown or added, with the random session ID and the offer and product IDs. This report does not currently wait for the shopper's analytics choice. It carries no other personal data.

Fonts. If a merchant chooses Google Fonts for the drawer, the shopper's browser loads them from Google. By default the drawer uses the theme's own fonts.

6. Marka Metrics

Marka Metrics adds no blocks to the store. Its web pixel runs in Shopify's strict sandbox as an analytics pixel, and only when the store's privacy settings allow analytics for the shopper. If the shopper withdraws consent during a visit, it stops and drops what it has not yet sent. It sets no cookies.

Name Where What it does How long
_marka_session Local storage A random visit ID and when it was last used, so the events of one visit are grouped A new ID after 30 minutes without activity. The entry stays until the browser's data is cleared.

The pixel also reads the browser ID that Shopify itself sets, and the app stores it only in pseudonymised form. What the pixel records and how long it is kept are in the Privacy Policy.
