Holiday Gift Sets and Seasonal Bundles on Shopify: A Planning Guide

Plan holiday gift sets on Shopify: gifting price points, packaging, limited stock, naming, a landing page, start and end dates, and what to do with leftovers.

A holiday gift set is a fixed bundle built to a gifting budget, presented so it can be handed over as it arrives, and sold for a limited period with a planned quantity. Plan it backwards from the last date you can deliver in time: decide the price points, the contents, the packaging and the stock before the season, and decide what happens to unsold sets before you make them. This guide takes those decisions in order.

What price points work for gifting?

The ones that match the budgets people set for the people they buy for. A gift buyer usually starts with a figure in mind and looks for something that fits under it, so a set priced just below a round number is easier to choose than one priced just above.

Build a small ladder, not a single set:

  • A small gift, for colleagues, teachers and stocking fillers.
  • A main gift, the set most buyers will choose.
  • A generous gift, for close family or a shared present.

Say a tea brand plans three sets as an example: a $24 trio of sample tins, a $48 set of two full tins with an infuser, and a $95 hamper with four tins, the infuser and a pot. Each sits just under a common budget, and the middle set is the one the page leads with.

A gift set does not need to be cheaper than its parts. The buyer is paying for a finished present and a decision made for them. If you do discount, check profit per set first; our guide to how much discount a product bundle should have shows the sum.

What should go in a set?

One product the recipient will recognise as the gift, one or two that support it, and something small that makes it feel complete.

  • Lead with a bestseller. A gift buyer is often not your customer and is choosing on behalf of someone else; a proven product is the safe choice.
  • Avoid anything that depends on the recipient's size, shade or skin type unless the set is sold by that attribute.

How should gift sets be packaged?

So that the set can be given without further work, and so that the box survives the journey.

  • Design from the shipping carton inwards. A presentation box that does not fit your standard cartons raises the shipping cost of every order.
  • Weigh a finished set. Packaging adds weight, and where shipping is charged by weight that can change the rate.
  • Offer a gift note and leave prices off the paperwork in the parcel when the order is marked as a gift.
  • Keep the packaging free of the year. A box that says nothing about the date can be sold next season.

How much stock should you commit?

A planned quantity you would be content to sell out of, set by the component you have least of.

Decide first whether sets are packed ahead or assembled as orders arrive. Packing ahead makes the busiest weeks faster, and it locks components into boxes where they cannot be sold separately. Assembling to order keeps stock free and slows each pick at the worst time.

Then be honest about limits. If only 200 sets exist, say so and stop at 200. A real limit is a good reason to buy now; an invented one is noticed.

How should seasonal sets be named and presented?

Name the set for who it is for or what it does, and put the contents in the first line of the description. 'The Tea Lover's Set' tells a gift buyer more than a product code or a clever pun. Add the season lightly, in the collection and the imagery, so the product name still works in January. There is more in how to name and describe product bundles.

Give the sets a landing page of their own:

  • A gift collection or page linked from the main navigation for the season.
  • Sets grouped the way buyers search: by budget and by recipient.
  • The last order date for delivery in time, stated at the top and on each set.
  • Contents shown in one photograph of the open box, plus a plain list.

When should the offer start and end?

Start before the buyers who plan ahead begin looking, and end on a date tied to delivery, not to the holiday itself.

  1. Fix the last order date from your carrier's cut-offs, with a margin for delays.
  2. Work back to a launch date that gives the sets several weeks on sale.
  3. Schedule the end. Any seasonal discount should carry an end date when you create it, so it does not run on into the new year unnoticed.
  4. Change the message after the cut-off. Once delivery in time is no longer possible, say so, and switch the page to gift cards or to sets as a treat for the buyer.

If the set is discounted, the price has to be right at checkout without a code. Marka Bundles & Upsells sells fixed bundles as one offer, discounted automatically at checkout through Shopify Functions.

What should you do with leftovers?

Decide before the season, and choose the route that protects next year's price.

  • Unpack them. If the components sell on their own, returning them to stock is often the cleanest answer. This is the reason to avoid sealing sets irreversibly.
  • Rename and continue. A set in undated packaging can carry on as a year-round kit under its ordinary name.
  • Clear them deliberately. If stock must go, attach it to another offer before marking it down in public. See using bundles to clear slow-moving stock.

A deep public markdown the week after the holiday teaches customers to wait for it next year.

A short checklist

  1. Set two or three price points under common gifting budgets.
  2. Build each set around a proven product.
  3. Design packaging to fit your cartons and weigh a finished set.
  4. Fix the quantity from your scarcest component.
  5. Publish a gift landing page with the last order date.
  6. Give every seasonal offer an end date.
  7. Choose the leftover plan before production.

Gift sets are fixed bundles with a deadline, and the wider choice of formats is covered in our guide to Shopify bundle types. To put this season's sets on your product pages, see Marka Bundles & Upsells.
