How to Name and Describe Product Bundles So They Sell

How to name a product bundle by its outcome, list what is inside, state the saving honestly and write short benefit copy, with ten example names.

Name a bundle after what it does for the buyer, then say exactly what is inside and what it saves. 'The Starter Kit' or 'The Weekend Set' tells a shopper who the bundle is for; 'Bundle 3' or '3-Pack Combo Deal' tells them nothing. This guide covers naming by outcome, listing the contents, stating the saving without inflating it, writing the two or three lines of copy that sit under the name, and ten example names you can adapt.

How should you name a bundle?

By the outcome, the occasion or the person, in that order of preference. A bundle exists because the buyer does not want to work out what goes together. The name should confirm that somebody has done that work for them.

Three patterns cover most cases:

  • Outcome. What the buyer will be able to do: The Starter Kit, The Deep Clean Set, The Home Barista Kit.
  • Occasion. When it will be used: The Weekend Set, The Carry-On Kit, The Sunday Roast Box.
  • Person. Who it is for: The New Parent Box, The Beginner's Set.

Keep the name to two to four words, and make it something a customer could say aloud to a friend.

Put the plain description beside it, not inside it. A name plus a subtitle does both jobs: 'The Starter Kit: cleanser, toner and moisturiser'. The name carries the idea, the subtitle carries the search terms and the facts. More ideas for what to put together are in our list of product bundle ideas by industry.

What should the description say is inside?

Everything, with sizes and quantities, in a short list. The first question about any bundle is 'what do I actually get', and a shopper who cannot answer it at a glance has a reason to hesitate.

For each item give:

  1. the product name as it appears on its own page;
  2. the size, weight, count or variant;
  3. its usual price, if you are showing a saving.

Surprise about what arrives is a cause of returns that clear wording prevents.

How do you state the saving honestly?

Add up what the items cost separately on your store today, show that total, show the bundle price, and state the difference in money.

Say a kit contains a cleanser at $22, a toner at $18 and a moisturiser at $30. Bought separately they come to $70. The kit sells for $59. The honest line is: 'Bought separately $70. Kit price $59. You save $11.'

Give the saving in currency first. Add a percentage if it is clean; $11 on $70 is about 16 percent, and 'about 16 percent' is weaker copy than 'Save $11'. How deep the saving should go is a margin question, covered in how much discount a bundle should have.

What counts as a fake reference price?

Any comparison figure the items do not really sell for. Common versions:

  • comparing against a list price nobody has paid for months, because the items are permanently 'on sale';
  • raising the individual prices just before launching the bundle;
  • quoting a 'worth' figure for an item you do not sell separately.

Good practice is simple: the reference price is the price a customer would pay today if they added the same items to the cart one by one. If an item is not sold on its own, leave it out of the comparison and describe it as included. Rules on price comparisons and savings claims differ by country, so check the requirements for each market you sell in.

Beyond the rules, there is a practical reason. Anyone can open the individual product pages and add up the prices, and a customer who finds the saving was overstated will doubt every other claim on the store.

What copy belongs under the name?

Two or three short lines that answer: who is this for, what will it do, and why these items together. Leave the full product detail on the individual product pages.

A useful template:

  • Line one, the buyer and the outcome. 'Everything you need for your first month of pour-over coffee.'
  • Line two, why this combination. 'The grinder is set for the dripper, and the filters fit it.'
  • Line three, the practical fact. 'Makes about 30 cups. Refill beans sold separately.'

Write benefits as facts the buyer can picture. 'Lasts about six weeks' beats 'long-lasting'. 'Fits in a jacket pocket' beats 'compact'.

How to lay the name, contents, price and saving out on the page is covered in displaying bundle offers on a product page.

Ten example bundle names by category

Each pairs an outcome name with a plain subtitle.

  1. Skincare: The Starter Routine: cleanser, toner, moisturiser.
  2. Coffee: The Home Barista Kit: dripper, filters, two bags of beans.
  3. Candles: The Slow Evening Set: any three candles.
  4. Pet food: The First Month Box: dry food, treats, feeding guide.
  5. Fitness: The Home Gym Basics: resistance bands, mat, door anchor.
  6. Stationery: The Fresh Notebook Set: notebook, pen, page markers.
  7. Babywear: The Coming Home Set: sleepsuit, hat, blanket.
  8. Haircare: The Wash Day Duo: shampoo and conditioner.
  9. Kitchen: The Sharp Knife Kit: chef's knife, whetstone, guard.
  10. Menswear: The Weekend Set: two T-shirts and a pair of shorts.

The structure behind these choices, including which offer type suits which product, is set out in the guide to Shopify bundle types. With Marka Bundles & Upsells, each offer is created in the Shopify admin and previewed before it is published, which is the moment to read the name and copy as a customer would.

A short checklist

  1. Name the bundle by outcome, occasion or person, in two to four words.
  2. Add a plain subtitle listing the contents.
  3. List every item with its size or count.
  4. Compare against today's real individual prices only.
  5. State the saving in currency first.
  6. Write three lines: who it is for, why these items, one practical fact.
  7. Use the same name on the product page, in the cart and in emails.

Good bundle copy is mostly accuracy with a friendly name on top. When the wording is ready, Marka Bundles & Upsells is one way to put the offer on the page and have the stated price applied at checkout.
